A walk in Montmartre with warm Chouquettes

Another day in the a Parisian region for Jeanne and Léon ! All morning long, Jeanne has been craving chouquettes. « They look so cute and delicious, we have to try it ! » she exclaims. « I heard that some of the best chouquettes in Paris can be found in Montmartre ». Léon looks up from his book, an idea forming in his mind. « Why don’t we get a bag of chouquettes, and then go visit Butte Montmartre and the Sacré-Cœur ? ». Without wasting any more time, the two friends are already on their way.

First, Jeanne and Léon want to get a handbag of chouquettes. What are chouquettes ? A chouquette is a type of choux pastry consisting of a small portion of dough sprinkled with pearl sugar. The Choux gives it a nice light texture, whereas the sugar on top makes it crispy and crunchy.

One of the best places in Paris to get amazing chouquettes is in the Montmartre neighborhood, at the Boulangerie-pâtisserie Pain Pain (88 Rue des Martyrs, 75018 Paris). To get there, Jeanne and Léon stop at the Abbesses metro station, and then it’s only a 2 minute walk.

Pain Pain makes every kind of bakery goods, from homemade breads to cinnamon rolls. Everything looks so tasy and delicious, Jeanne and Léon want to buy everything ! But they remember what they are here for : Chouquettes ! The chouquettes are still warm, smelling amazing. « Let’s find a place to taste them ! » Jeanne says.

Actually, the two friends are in one of the most beautiful neighborhoods of Paris : the Montmartre district. It is a large hill and is known for its artistic history, the Basilic of the Sacré-Cœur, and as a nightclub district. It is often described as a "parisian village", especially concerning the Batignolles neighbourhood.

During the Belle Epoque, at the end of the 19th century and beginning of the 20th century, many artists lived or worked there, including Claude Monet, Pierre-Auguste Renoir, Pablo Picasso and Vincent Van Gogh.

After wandering trough the displays of street artists in Place du Tertre, Jeanne and Léon decide to find a spot on the Butte Montmartre to sit and enjoy their chouquettes with a view on the Sacré-Coeur. And of course, they taste as amazing as being in Montmartre feels.

Kisses from Paris !
